Getting started in Freelance writing?

I have bee interested in writing for some time now but have just recently decided to try and make some money off it. I’m looking for good places where I can start freelance writing and start getting my name out there. Any sites where I bid on jobs, post written articles for sale or anything else help. Any ideas?

Drizzt (btw, love the name)
there are many ways you can get started.
1) Content writing – there are several writing sites that will offer you a set amount of money for any given article you write. Rates run from $3 – $15 per article.
2) Content writing – there are sites that offer you a percentage of the revenues of the hits made off of your article. Suite 101 and Helium, are examples.
3) Blogging – if you get your blog out there, and get a large crowd to visit and read your site, you can make money off of the revenue based on the clicks, or advertisement
4) Some sites will give you a salary, as long as write a certain number of articles per month – one big example is About.com
5) Writer’s markets like elance, guru, and freelancewritinggigs offer updated postings of Writing Job postings
5) Print media – pick up the Writer’s Market in the reference section of your local bookstore. It has a listing of magazines that need submissions and are willing to pay. It’s lucrative, but it can be tough at first, because you will get a lot of rejection letters. The book will also teach you how to correctly pitch and submit correctly formatted articles to magazines

Everybody’s got that one dream! You know…”C’mon lotto”… or “If I ever get rich and famous” kinda dream. Here’s mine…I’ve always wanted to own this big ol’ Victorian house, with the wrap around porch and the rotunda! Inside would be practice rooms, a recording studio, and a great room that would have built in bookshelves filled with books on poets, and musicians, and music. In another large room would be a stage for poetry readings and acoustic nights and such.A non-profit creative arts school! FREELANCE & FREEDOM PERFORMING ARTS!The cost would be on a sliding scale for most and free to those who don’t have the means to pursue their creative art in music. It would be an environment that would provide music lessons and/or explore creativity and dreams in music.I’ve wanted to do this ever since I saw the movie Billy Jack! The character Jean ran a school where creativity was key to finding yourself and also a place providing a human service. That was when I first put creative arts providing a human service together!I have worked in human service related jobs for over twenty years. I have been writing since childhood and loved music since birth. So in addition to “C’mon lotto”…”If I ever get rich and famous”…have you ever heard anyone say…”Someday I’m gonna write a book!”Working a job where I could use my creativity was always my first choice, but, like so many other people I was pushed to get a “real job”. So I pondered…and I thought…what if I write a book?It would give me personal satisfaction and pride…’real riches don’t have dollar signs’…and if it did make a few bucks, I could donate ‘money’ to a human service cause!Creative art providing a human service!Livin’ the dream…Now isn’t that just poetic justice?

The Reel Truth: Everything You Didn’t Know You Need to Know About Making an Independent Film

$11.99

Did you know that most of the biggest indie filmmakers, screenwriters, and producers working today each made the same avoidable mistakes early on in their careers? The Reel Truth details the pitfalls, snares, and roadblocks that aspiring filmmakers encounter. Reed Martin interviewed more than one hundred luminaries from the independent film world to discuss the near misses that almost derailed their first and second films and identify the close shaves that could have cut their careers short. Other books may tell you the best way to make your independent film or online short, but no other book describes so candidly how to spot and avoid such issues and obstacles as equipment problems, shooting-day snafus, postproduction myths, theatrical distribution deal breakers, and dozens of other commonly made missteps, including the top fifty mistakes every filmmaker makes. From personal experience and his years as a freelance reporter covering independent film for USA Today and Filmmaker magazine, Martin uncovers the truth about the risks and potential rewards that go with chasing celluloid glory. Whether you’re writing a screenplay, looking for financing, about to start shooting, or thinking about investing time and money (or someone else’s money) in an independent film, The Reel Truth is a must-read.
